    How to Check HD Errors

Attempting a Backup with Acronis, and it says I have HD Errors. Suggest I use Disk Tools to solve problems.

In windows, I remember using some program like chkdsk, but what do we use in Ubuntu???

    Thanks!

I'd think that fsck (filesystecheck) would be a place to start. If you google fsck you'll find some resources. As always with google, use a little caution about what sources you place your confidence in. A quick search indicates that Acronis supports Ext* file systems so that shouldn't be an issue.

Re: How to Check HD Errors

Here is what I did. Boot with SYSTEM RESCUE CD.
Run Gparted, Right Clik on HD and select CHECK.
It will check the disk and fix errors automatically.

Didn't seem to mess anything up thank goodness. System booted fine afterwards.
Can't tell you how many times I've helped people using that Boot Disk. A must tool to have.

Thanks everyone for making this a place for people to learn how to operate on their own computer system.
Glad to be a part of the community.
