    deleting own posts

I have looked into this before but never found a definitive answer. It seems impossible to delete one's own posts and own replies to other's posts. If untrue, how do I do it? If true, how is this very strange practice justified? In the past whenever I ended up double posting due to a glitch, the only thing I could do was edit one of them down a period. Due to multiple downtimes/glitches yesterday, I did this again and found that reply moved over to "jail" as a new posting. Seems terribly inefficient.
    Any info appreciated.
    thanks.

No, you may not delete your own posts. Only the Forums Staff may "delete" posts by moving them out of public view to The Jail.

This is necessary to avoid causing indexing problems and orphaned records in the forum database. It also keeps users from removing posts in such a manner as to leave threads without continuity and context. If you edit your own post with a period and that renders the thread incomprehensible, we will often restore the original text.

If you want a post deleted, a duplicate for instance, simply use the report button to ask the Staff to clean up. We will decide what to do.

This universe is crazy. I'm going back to my own.

If that's so than please fix the mouse over text on the Edit post button, because it says "edit / delete", so I am not surprised many people are confused and think they can delete their posts.
those that are last may yet be first

I've just checked what I see on my last post and you're correct in reporting what you see.

But please don't forget that the forum admins, all volunteers, have little say in what Canonical, the owner of these forums choose to implement.

In any case, what you, they or I might want might not be possible considering the limitations imposed on all of us by the vBulletin software.
