Post Trouble with resolution and installing

Hi, I'm super new to ubuntu and the linux community/I have a GTX 1060 and a Acer R240HY 1920x1080 monitor. I haven't installed ubuntu yet until i fix this issue but, when i try to change my resolution in the settings menu, its stuck on 1024x768 resolution and when i try to change it, no other resolution pops up. So, any suggestions on fixing this issue?! I really wan't to get into the linux os since I got kind of bored of windows. I also have a problem when I try to install, since i want to keep my windows as backup it doesn't have an option to keep my data and instead deleting my data which i dont want to do. Help!
