If this is inside a VirtualBox VM then install the dkms package and then reinstall the Guest Additions

If not a VirtualBox VM, what is it then?
What do you mean by "guest session"?

Also, please post the output of running these commands in a Terminal -
    Code:
    lsb_release -a
    uname -a
    Xubuntu 22.04, ArchLinux ♦ System76 hardware, virt-manager/KVM, VirtualBox

How and why did you install the VirtualBox Guest Additions?
What does that uname command above give?

    I don't recall installing them

This would show if it got installed through the package manager
    Code:
    dpkg-query -W | grep -i virtualbox
If it's the official Guest Additions look in /opt for VBox related stuff.

Let us know what you find (especially if you find it in /opt as uninstalling official Guest Additions on a bare-metal machine might be slightly finicky)
