Trackpad not working mouse cursor disappeared after customizing 16.04 macbook air 6,2

I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04.1 on my MacBook Air (6,2). After doing some customizations (most recently installing xscreensaver, electricsheep, and caffeine), my cursor disappeared and my trackpad seems to have stopped working (in a browser window for instance, scrolling does not work). I tried uninstalling xscreensaver to see if that would resolve the issue, but the issue remains. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated - thanks!
