Recording Software Black Screen

Alright dont give me any complicated answers or fixes i know almost 0 about linux i mainly just use it on my chrome book to run programs and dont care for how it works just as long as it does, but when i use any of the offered linux recording software such as recordmydesktop, simple screen recorder, kazam etc. my entrire screen goes pitch black and i can see or hear anything, and i dont mean after recording i mean as soon as i press record my screen goes pitch black.

Which version of Ubuntu is running on the hardware?

What GPU is used? Are you using F/LOSS or proprietary drivers for the GPU?

You mentioned a chromebook. Why? Are you using crouton?

lspci

Then we can start to diagnose the problem.
