dolphin-emu gamepad not working since upgrade to 5.0

I have been using dolphin-emu for a while now and it's been working pretty well. The problem is the other day they released the 5.0 version and I upgraded via apt and now my gamepad isn't working. It will work when I configure it but as soon as the game launches it does nothing.

I have tried building it from source as well and it has the same problem. The windows version works just fine with the same gamepad and system (Dualboot with windows 10) just not in ubuntu.

Anyone have any thoughts ? Anyone else having this problem ?

I figured out how to install the old version via apt but I'd really like to be able to use 5.0 as it contains lots of fixes.

I also have this issue and would love to figure it out. I was reading maybe its something with evdev device file not having correct permissions and not readable, but not too sure how to check that.

I found out that if you open a game and then choose your controller again in the settings it will work for that game. Kind of annoying but at least its a workaround!
