Two days ago I surfed to a "no no" (s*x) site, using my anonymous (privet window) FireFox browser. Like always, immediately after, I rebooted the system just to find out that my user (the regular, not the Admin) gets into the desktop without asking for any password (not as usually, with a password request) I suspect that something from that site tried to install itself into my system an that's why the change in the password request system. Of course I re enabled the password request and changed it, but I would like to be sure that nothing else hasn't changed in the system. No spies nor other "software terrorists" lurking in the dark, tracking my actions. How can I check that? Thank you, James
Simple. Compare all the files on the system to the backup files you made prior to doing this. In the future, take more precautions. a) Don't use the same browser. All software has bugs. b) Don't use any normal or sudo-capable accounts - use the "guest" account. c) if you really want to be safest, boot off a live-CD and use that from a different internet location than your home or office. Think pizza place or cafe. However, I find it very hard to believe any program able to change the requirement for a password at login would happen thru a firefox session. May need to look elsewhere if this really happened, but I suspect it is a bug, not an attack. If you really care and don't have a full system backup from prior to this point, reload the OS.
