I have Lubuntu 16.04 installed on my external HD, which I use in many different computers. In one of them, which has a motherboard ASRock H55M-LE and a sound card VIA VT1818S, sometimes the sound don't work. I already had issues with sound before (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2317802).

Soon after I upgraded to Lubuntu 16.04, I noticed that 1/3 of times I booted the computer there was no sound. It was using ALSA only. Then, due to errors with Unity3D games, I have installed Pulseaudio. Now it has 1/4 chance of the error and thought PavuControl I was able to see how the computer behaves: it doesn't find the output device of the VIA card, only the Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300 Series] one. One thing I noticed is that the Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300 Series] is in above position than internal audio in Pavucontrol.

To solve it, I just need to reboot the computer. The sound always work after the reboot, but it would be interesting if it always detect the sound devices correctly. The curious thing is even if the HD was booted before on the same computer sometimes the error happens (when I go sleep I turn off the computer and in the next day the sound may not work in the first boot attempt), and it happens only in this computer. I don't know how to reproduce, it is random, looks like.

I will remember to use AlsaInfo when I boot and the sound don't work.

If I deactivate the Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300 Series] in Pavucontrol, will the option be saved after I use the HD in another computer?

PS.: I am surprised by how pulseaudio is working better with 16.04 compared to 14.04.
