How does it work in a live boot of 16.04?

I upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04 and that program is present without my having to do anything:

    Code:
    09:01 AM ~ $ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
    xserver-xorg-input-synaptics:
      Installed: 1.8.2-1ubuntu3
      Candidate: 1.8.2-1ubuntu3
      Version table:
     *** 1.8.2-1ubuntu3 500
            500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
            100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
    09:02 AM ~ $

Upgraded from 15.10 to 16.04 on Dell XPS 13 9343 and found that this was required to enable the touchpad.

Re: Ubuntu 16.04 touchpad not working

Exactly the same issue here. Touchpad does NOT work even after having xserver-xorg-input-synaptics reinstalled ...
    Is it a hardware problem? -- I'm using GT72-6QE
    or a software/OS problem? -- Ubuntu 16.04.1

    Cheers
