    Python-Minimal error in 16.04 LTS

    Tried doing
    Code:
    sudo apt-get upgrade
after I updated to Xenial from Wily and I keep getting this error

Setting up python-minimal (2.7.11-1) ...dpkg: error processing package python-minimal (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    python-minimal
    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
    I tried several different commands
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install -f
    Code:
    sudo apt-get autoremove
    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
    Code:
    sudo apt-get clean
but none of these commands seem to have fixed the issue. Is this an issue with 16.04 or did I do something during the upgrade process that could have caused this? If I did, is there a way I can fix it without doing a fresh install? Thanks in advance. Cheers!

Footnote: I had VirtualBox and GNS3 installed, but after the upgrade they quit working. Could the above issue be the cause of this?

Please show us the entire ouput of the 'sudo apt-get upgrade' command.
dpkg usually provides more information about most errors.

    This is for
    Code:
    sudo apt-get upgrade

    root@brian-Inspiron-3520:/home/brianjones# apt-get upgrade
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
    Calculating upgrade... Done
0 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 0 not to upgrade.
1 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 0 B of additional disk space will be used.

Delete the package from your cache and try downloading a fresh copy.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get clean python-minimal
    sudo apt-get upgrade

Re: Phython-Minimal error in 16.04 LTS

That file is now either blank or non-existent. After doing some reading I saw where python-minimal is a dependency of python 2.7 which was already installed, but an older version (I'm assuming python-minimal2.6) was conflicting. So I just ran
    Code:
    sudo apt-get remove python-minimal
    and got this output

    root@brian-Inspiron-3520:/home/brianjones# apt-get remove python-minimal
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
    libasound2:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386 libasyncns0:i386 libdbus-1-3:i386
    libflac8:i386 libfreetype6:i386 libgcrypt20:i386 libgpg-error0:i386
    libice6:i386 libjack-jackd2-0:i386 libjson-c2:i386 libogg0:i386
    libpng12-0:i386 libpulse0:i386 libsamplerate0:i386 libsm6:i386

    libxext6:i386 libxfixes3:i386 libxrandr2:i386 libxrender1:i386 libxtst6:i386
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED
    python-minimal
0 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 1 to remove and 0 not to upgrade.
1 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 148 kB disk space will be freed.

    Removing python-minimal (2.7.11-1) ...

    then I did

    Code:
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    got this output

    So I ran
