How to reset desktop? 16.04 upgrade?

NOt sure on the graphic cardin my Lenovo notebook but yes, my guest account works fine. It just erases after I log out of it.

Ok, I think I got it working alright. Funnily enough I'm quite sure I did try this several times yesterday, but this is what I did from a terminal windows inside the broken unity environment (right click, select terminal):

sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop unity
dconf reset -f /org/compiz
dconf reset -f /org/compiz/

(Note that I did not use sudo in the last two commands)
