In the process of trying to fix that, I ended up running several updates including the one that included the lightdm update. Only after that point did I get to the bottom of the initramfs/udev issue. In order to fix that, I came across reports on launchpad, and used the instructions provided at the top of this bug entry, which sorted the error out and I was left with only the lightdm one.
