    BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)

    Hello

I'm a complete Ubuntu novice and have installed Chromixium on to my old Dell Mini 10 netbook. It's given it a new lease of life and I'm really enjoying getting to know a new OS.

However, I can't get the wireless adaptor working. I've read the pinned post and followed the steps but no joy. Could anyone assist? I believe that for the adaptor I should be using "sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer" but I get this back

Package firmware-b43-lpphy-installer is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
    firmware-b43-installer

However when I do install that package, my wireless still doesn't work. Am i missing something?

    Thanks in advance

    Installation:
    Code:
    sudo tar xvf ~/Downloads/2480236-Broadcom_Firmware.tar.gz -C /lib/firmware/

Hi there, thanks for helping out.

I've tried that but still no joy. I had wireless while the netbook used XP so I don't think it's faulty

Obviously, the driver is not loaded:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -v b43
    echo b43 | sudo tee -a /etc/modules

Progress! Of sorts anyway. When I right click the network icon in the task bar there is now ENABLE WIFI with a tick next to it. However, I can't see any wireless networks to join. Do I need to do anything else?

Please use code tags - if you are using New Reply button - highlight text and use the # button in the text box header.

If using Quick Reply then [code] at the beginning and [/code] at the end.

    Lets check
    Code:
    iwlist chan
    sudo iwlist scan
    dmesg | egrep 'b43|country'
    Which country do you live?
