    Re: Ubuntu 15.10 on Dell Xps 15 9550 new Infinity display (i7 6gen 16gbr UHD 4k touch

    @jchedstrom Thanks again for posting all this info. I asked in Dell community foruns about linux compatability for this laptop, and the silent there is profund...

    So from what I understood. Wifi seems to work well...
    The battery life seems a lot off from what they sell it for windows... specially for the one that you have (the largest one, right?)

    Please let us know how the VGA
    dongle worked.

    VGA dongle worked perfectly. Makes sense since the driver is completely separate from the Nvidia/Intel stack and should be very mature and stable.

    I have the largest battery (84wh). Hopefully someone will do a Windows test for us Have you seen any 3rd party test with this hardware setup? I don't trust the 11-16 hours Dell claims.

    Hi @jchedstrom

    Thanks for nice guide. I'm facing 2 problems right now.
    - Suspend doesn't work
    - If I reboot the computer the BIOS doesn't detect the SSD drive. Only If I do full power-off and power-on the SSD got detected

    Did you experience similar problems?

    @shamil.si

    Confirm that suspend doesn't work on mine either.

    Reboot works perfectly on mine. Did you change any drive settings in the bios? What version of bios are you on? From memory I think mine is 1.0.0.5.

    @jchedstrom,

    The restart stopped to work after I upgraded BIOS to version 01.00.03, after downgrading it back to 01.00.00 the restart started to work again! Go figure ...
    Other stuff seems to work fine, the only thing is Suspend

    Hi,

    @jchedstrom Thanks for the feedback.

    What about mic, webcam, etc...? Did you test it how they are performing?

    @jchedstrom and friends - Thanks to all for the very useful tips. Much appreciated!

    After going through those steps in a UEFI dual-boot setup, I'm hitting a couple issues. The main one is this:

    After the install, Ubuntu booted perfectly, once. But, every successive boot has given the "Dell SupportAssist Error Code: 2000-0151" that you mentioned in your post. I'm not able to ignore this error because it forces an immediate reboot after pressing "Continue." So, I have not been able to get back into Ubuntu.

    • Any idea what causes this?
    • Did it only happen to you once?
    • How did you get around it?

    Thanks again!

    Just a quick update.. My guess is that the Dell error message simply means is that it couldn't find the .efi path that was specified in the BIOS. I just took another look and I can no longer find any \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi. Still investigating...

    It seems that Dell/Canonical currently is focussed on the XPS 13 and not the XPS 15 yet.
    But there is an installation summary that doesn't sound so bad.

    If I understand you right the current state is far away from keeping the fan silent - right?

    Just wanted to thank @jchedstrom again for the really useful tips! Well done!

    I had to use boot-repair to get a functioning system, but now I'm writing this post from a Ubuntu 15.10 partition on a new XPS 15
