    Helping with Ubuntu Newletter

Actually I am interest in helping out with the Ubuntu Weekly newsletter. I would like to help with editing (checking for grammatical mistakes and spelling errors). I don't yet feel confident enough to comment on technical aspects of Ubuntu, although with the progress I am making it may be less than a year when I will be able to develop Ubuntu programs, lol. Anyway my name is Linda, please respond if you still need editors since I want to give back in some way to the Ubuntu community. I love this operating system! I really hope Microsoft is not buying Ubuntu, since in my view they could change it from the awesome Open Source Operating system it is to the mess that is Windows (just my opinion although I realize many people are still Windows fans...).

Hi Linda, thanks for your interest. It would have been best for you to start a new thread as your request is off-topic for this discussion. I only saw your post as it was at the top of the new posts search.

Anyway, please send an email to the address shown on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuWeeklyNewsletter/Join (paragraphs 3 and 4) and Elizabeth can set things up for you. If you have any questions you can send me a PM at any time, as long as it's about the newsletter:

[I might ask the mods to move your post and mine to a separate thread]

Re: Helping with the Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter

Thanks coffeecat although I never did hear from Linda_Q.

Unfortunately we won't be publishing issue #439 of the newsletter this week. Despite many hours of preparation no-one actually turned up to write the thing. When publication time came around there was simply too much for José to do and Elizabeth wasn't available this weekend. José and I agreed to issue a bumper edition next week which will of course take in the release of Ubuntu 15.10.

So I'm taking this thread slightly off-topic by making an unofficial appeal for help with the newsletter. We get many offering to help, some do for a while but then drift away never to be seen again. Others do what they can on an occasional basis while others move on to more important Ubuntu projects which takes up so much of their valuable time.

All I'm appealing for is some help with summary writing, those two or three lines that summarise each news story. If there are enough of us it means a commitment of no more than 30 minutes or so each weekend. If you're not a native English speaker then that doesn't matter. Each issue is proof read for spelling, grammar and conformance with the style guidelines.

Here are some links that will give you some information about what is required:

Please PM me if you're interested. Thanks for your time if you've read this far.

Edit: I can also be contacted on IRC - PaulW2U on #ubuntu-news on the Freenode network.
