    System 76 drivers

Looking at the System 76 laptops and am thinking of purchasing one. I noticed after an upgrade the System 76 drivers have to be reinstalled.
Why are the drivers necessary over and above the drivers installed by the Ubuntu software? Do they enable special keyboard operations and other special operations not normally installed with Ubuntu iso file?
What hardware or operations do they cover?
Thanks for any info on this matter.

I would assume the drivers cover things like the Keyboard, Mouse, Webcam, etc. that may not be included in the Linux kernel.

Thanks for the info and reply Euphoria.
I was thinking the same thing but wanted to get another opinion.
    Thanks again.
