Quake 3 - oss sound support

Long story short...

Ubuntu 14.04.2

installed and working... spits out /dev/dsp errors - or - sorry your soundcard cant do this..

Tried the normal padsp / aoss - no joy

Installed alsa-oss / oss-compat - no joy

Now only spits - sorry your soundcard cant do this..

any ideas.?

Install ioquake3, get it from http://ioquake3.org/get-it/ (first "engine download" and then "data installer" - of course you'll still need your pak0.pk3 to copy after installation)

Works right out of the box.
