Re: help with wifi on acer switch notebook/tablet

    I think I'm getting closer.
Indeed you are! We see a fixable problem! We shall apply a fix and it may work or it may then bring up a further error; we'll see.
brcmfmac_sdio mmc1:0001:1: firmware, attempted to load /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43241b4-sdio.txt, but failed with error -22
    I found this: https://github.com/jfwells/linux-asu...241b4-sdio.txt

Notice it is a text file. Examining it we see, in part:
#Sample variables file for BCM94324A1 iPA+iLNA FCBGA REF board
    # NV VER: 0.2.3.0.XV1
    # 20130829 Change Note:
    # Enable Out of band GPIO for connected standby
    # 20130809 Change Note:
    # REMOVE 2x2 BTC effect BIT
    # Change CCODE to XV/1
    # 20130816 Change Note:

    # Change Power-per-rate settings
    # 20130903 Change Note:
    # Change Power-per-rate settings
    <snip>
There follows a list of variables that are evidently user-variable. What any of these do or mean is unknown to me. I suggest you load the file into /lib/firmware/brcm and see if the wireless works or if dmesg tells us more we can go on.

If you have internet access by ethernet or otherwise, then do:
    Code:
    cd /lib/firmware/brcm
    sudo wget https://github.com/jfwells/linux-asus-t100ta/blob/master/nvram/lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43241b4-sdio.txt
sudo modprobe -r brcmfmac && sudo modprobe brcmfmac
If you haven't any internet access, download the file on any other computer, transfer it on a USB key or similar to the desktop and then:
    Code:
    sudo cp ~/Desktop/brcmfmac43241b4-sdio.txt /lib/firmware/brcm
sudo modprobe -r brcmfmac && sudo modprobe brcmfmac
If the wireless doesn't spring to life, look for and post any clues:
    Code:
    dmesg | grep brcm

Getting closer. Thanks for your help so far. Problem is now that I can't see any ssid's.

Re: help with wifi on acer switch notebook/tablet

    I notice this:
wlan0 11 channels in total; available frequencies :
    Channel 01 : 2.412 GHz
    <snip>
    Channel 11 : 2.462 GHz
May I assume that at least one of the SSIDs you are seeking is on one of those channels? Is there any change if you set the regulatory domain? Check yours:
    Code:
    sudo iw reg get
If you get 00, that is a one-size-maybe-fits-all setting. Find yours here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2 Then set it temporarily:
    Code:
    sudo iw reg set IS
Of course, substitute your country code if not Iceland. If it helps, we'll set it permanently.

    Now test:
    Code:
    sudo iwlist wlan0 scan
    Are there any clues here?
    Code:
    cat /var/log/syslog | grep -e wlan -e brcm | tail -n20
    http://paste.ubuntu.com if you please.

Re: help with wifi on acer switch notebook/tablet

thank you chili555! I think that might have been the issue. It was set for 00. I changed it to US country code and I am able to see SSID's at the library where I am working. I'm betting when I get home it will work as expected. Just need to set it permanently. I'll do some searching to see if I can figure it out.

hummm... so I can see the library ssid's but I can't connect. I also turned on my hotspot and I cannot see it's ssid at all. I am seeing brcmf_escan_timeout: timer expired messages in the syslog.

I killed networkmanager and nmapplet and installed wicd. I can now see and connect to all SSID's. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts? LOL! I'd remove NM entirely, set your reg domain permanently and call it solved!

    Code:
    gksudo gedit /etc/default/crda
Use nano or kate or leafpad if you don't have the text editor gedit.

Change the last line to read:
    Code:
    REGDOMAIN=IS
Of course, substitute your country code if not Iceland. Proofread carefully, save and close the text editor.

Re: help with wifi on acer switch notebook/tablet

That's exactly what I did... install wicd and uninstall nm.

So now onto performance. I get probably 10-15% packet loss with this thing. I've disabled power management temporarily with 'iwconfig wlan0 power off'
That helped a little. Now I'm at 6% packet loss. I seem to remember with my old mac that had a broadcom chip I had to disable wireless n and I got much better performance. How can I do that with the brcmfmac driver? and make it and the power off permanent?

I think a mistake has been made with the .txt file we downloaded. Please do:
    Code:
    cat /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43241b4-sdio.txt | head -n5
    Do you see this?

    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html lang="en" class="">
If so, a mistake has been made; I apologize. Please do:
    Code:
    sudo rm /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43241b4-sdio.txt
    cd /lib/firmware/brcm
    wget https://github.com/jfwells/linux-asus-t100ta/raw/master/nvram/lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43241b4-sdio.txt
Now we edit the raw file:
    Code:
    sudo gedit /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43241b4-sdio.txt
Use nano or kate or leafpad if you don't have the text editor gedit. Remove the first several characters such that the very first line now reads:
    Code:
#Sample variables file for BCM94324A1 iPA+iLNA FCBGA REF board
Proofread carefully, save and close the text editor. Reload the module so it now sees the proper file:
    Code:
sudo modprobe -r brcmfmac && sudo modprobe brcmfmac
    Any change in the performance?
