    How to add the dash board in Plank on Ubuntu 15.04FR

    April 25th 2015. Testing Ubuntu 15.04 Final Release(FR)

    Not able to add the dash board into the Plank dock. Is it possible?
    If yes, how to disable the launcher permanently (other then hiding it)? I installed Plank from here and it works fine:
    http://linuxg.net/how-to-install-pla...ative-systems/

    $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:docky-core/stable

    $ sudo apt-get update
    $ sudo apt-get install plank
    To make plank run at reboot, create the below symlink:
    $ sudo ln -s /usr/share/applications/plank.desktop /etc/xdg/autostart/
    Optional, to remove plank, do:
    $ sudo apt-get remove plank

    Re: How to add the dash board in Plank on Ubuntu

    You need to -
    install xdotool
    Then create a dash.desktop & add to plank. It can go into ~/.local/share/applications for ease of editing, ect. (no root needed
    basic one, click on icon opens Dash home, right click exposes lens choices -
    Code:
    gedit ~/.local/share/applications/dash.desktop
    Code:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Version=1.0
    Type=Application
    Name=Dash
    Exec=xdotool key Super
    NoDisplay=true
    Icon=/usr/share/unity/icons/launcher_bfb.png
    Actions=Apps;Files;Music;Vids;Pics;

    [Desktop Action Apps]
    Name=Applications
    Exec=xdotool key Super+a
    TargetEnvironment=Unity

    [Desktop Action Files]
    Name=Files
    Exec=xdotool key Super+f
    TargetEnvironment=Unity

    [Desktop Action Music]
    Name=Music
    Exec=xdotool key Super+m
    TargetEnvironment=Unity

    [Desktop Action Vids]
    Name=Videos
    Exec=xdotool key Super+v
    TargetEnvironment=Unity

    [Desktop Action Pics]
    Name=Photos
    Exec=xdotool key Super+c
    TargetEnvironment=Unity
    No you cannot remove the unity launcher completely or not easily. Just hide & make pressure to expose very high..

    sudo apt-get install xdotool
    Works fine
    gedit ~/.local/share/applications/dash.desktop
    Works fine also: Able to create the file but i'm stuck there.
    Then create a dash.desktop & add to plank
    How???

    I forgot - plank doesn't do DnD of .desktops.
    What you need to do is add dash.desktop manually, hopefully the screens prove informative to you
    (- basically open ~/.config/plank/dock1/launchers, create a new file named dash.dockitem & edit in as in screen except the path will use your user name. You can use one of the other .dockitem files as a 'template' if desired

    Re: How to add the dash board in Plank on Ubuntu 15.04FR

    gedit ~/.config/plank/dock1/launchers
    Gives me an error: /home/ibm/.config/plank/dock1/lauchers is a directory. Please check that you have typed the location correctly and try again. Also, what is the content of the file? If I understand correctly, you want me to save the file the Home directory?

    Re: How to add the dash board in Plank on Ubuntu 15.04FR

    Was able to create the file and have a question mark icon in the dock now. See screen shot. Also, the following text was generated by the terminal when I save it:

    ** (gedit:2599): CRITICAL **: gedit_multi_notebook_get_active_tab: assertion 'GEDIT_IS_MULTI_NOTEBOOK (mnb)' failed

    (gedit:2599): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_action_group_get_action: assertion 'GTK_IS_ACTION_GROUP (action_group)' failed

    (gedit:2599): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_action_set_sensitive: assertion 'GTK_IS_ACTION (action)' failed

    Your icon issue aside does the launcher in plank work or not?

    I just did this from scratch on a new 15.04 install (previous were all from my real14.04 install), went very smooth.

    The plank icon for Dash was wrong until a log out/in but otherwise works & now looks fine
    (as far as creating that .dockitem file I just opened the folder > r. click > New Document > ect. so never used terminal, though if I do now there are no warnings -
    all in screen
