I just made a clean install. Total wipe! Fresh 14.0.2! The second iteration that gives you a new kernel and all! "You just have to keep your machine updated and it'll be the new version of the LTS that you..." No! It won't, that's an old lie now. The first thing I do is go into bash and try to write "sudo apt/get update". Exactly like that. It doesn't work of course, as the we all know. It should be "sudo apt-get update". No matter how careful I am, it defaults to some sort of English-speaking keyboard! I look up to the right. It says I'm using a Swedesh keyboard. But as I type I can see I'm really not, it's just doing a quick and dirty little thing called pleasing the eye. My stupid ÅÄÖ are now not there anymore. Who needs them? Not that many. Who needs a keyboard in a language other than the default. Only the majority, but they don't count. *sigh* Pressing super - spacebar makes it turn into 'You are now using "some sort of English"', then again to make it say its lie about Swedish keyboard that it wasn't honouring before. And now it works. Yeah, I know, but I shouldn't have to press two buttons, twice, to have that revealed to me! It uses English while saying it's Swedish! This must be the hardest bug to fix ever, because it's not fixed yet. Not even in 14.04.2. Yes, there is a bug report and I'm not going to link to iot just because you're too lazy to look it up. Just press super - space, and then do it again to make it appear, right? Let's be honest, Ubuntu is for everyone, everyone: "Everyone who's not stupid enough to be using a anyhting but the keyboared layout that "the gods" intended. Which is not a Swedish/anythingbut English one." <snip> Right? I should just have the Änglish keyboard (just press the key with an "Ä" on it, that should work), right? Not some silly other language that is not important enough! Because that is how we get Linux on every desktop. Provided that you also teach them that pressing "super - space", twice damn it, is the normal thing to do. Yes, it's a rant, and yes it's because this is <snip> Why does 14.04.2 still display a cute little icon that tells you what your keyboard layout is and then decides that it isn't really doing it? How long has this been a bug? A long time? Really? And it's not THAT important? Still not important, bugwize, not even for an LTS release... How about that... What did you change? I never stumble upon this one while using Debian testing, not even once! And it's on the same machines that shouts "YOU ARE USING A SWEDISH KEYBOARD, TO GET IT WORKING PLEASE PRESS SUPER - SPACE TWICE!" The transtion to phones will be a lot of fun to see, the devil is in the details. Or so I've heard. This is a horrible little bug, one that people who are using an English keybord says is "no big deal, just press some keys and it's back to normal!" Note that they don't have to do it, neither do their mothers or grandparents... It works in Debian for *insert any gods here* sake! Honour your heritage! Or just keep asking me if I've reported the bug. Yes I have. I have. A very long time ago. So long it looks like Debian is new! It's like a steam engine that won't quit! Old and not really "modern" is it? While Ubuntu is more mmodern, but still running that steam engine... "Can everyone just get off the train, and then get on again. Then it will run. And that's not strange at all! Please use us in the future, in your car for example. It'll be as easy as pressing an arbitrary key-combination on your phone." Is there a fix?

People seeking to offer support usually don't want to read through long diatribes and will skip them. You'd do better to simply state your problem and then ask your question. If you do want to discuss matters concerning Ubuntu without technical support, there is a discussion section here: http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=434 Rants are not good idea though. They tend to attract responses in kind. Also - please keep your posts family and work-friendly.

I've pressed pressed super - space twice. Didn't follow the link. And I'm happy to be posting here, even if you, or anyone else, think it's the wrong forum. This bug needs attention, it's silly and stupid. And only people who don't care know about it. Not the same keyboard as the developers? "Oops, we don't give a shite!" This needs to be known! I've been telling people to "super - space" for too long. I thought it was a good combination to rant AND make it public. I still think its place is general support.
