Hi, I have a 2007 Sony Vaio VGN-N365E running Elementary OS w/ custom 2GB RAM. My PC ran Windows Vista stock and I installed Ubuntu 13.10. I found Elementary OS and installed that on what used to be my Ubuntu partition. Right now, Elementary doesn't install my apps anymore, for whatever reason. I am looking to resolve the issue where my computer does not see the USB drive or DVD drive on boot so I can update to the new Ubuntu 15.04. Thanks...
on boot ? you mean it can't even see it in your bios ? ubuntu 15 is still in beta 1, still lots of bugs being ironed out. i'm using elementary os beta 2(freya), but i've used all of them if you need help with that.
Thread moved to Ubuntu/Debian BASED. Welcome. 13.10 is no longer supported. Don't go there. 15.04 is not released until late April. Expect breakage. I'd avoid for now. You could try installing straight, solid, stable 14.04 LTS so you can get at least an up and functioning, stable install. Be specific about what's happening when you try and install apps. How are you going about installing them? Error messages?

Somehow, the drives are readable. Before I wrote this thread it only read what I have installed on the internal. I do not have any Cd's write now for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or 14.10, but I found the Ubuntu 13.10 disc I used for my first install. I was having a problem with both USB and disc drive. When I was having the problem, I did edit the boot order. After I wrote the post I got my disc and put it in and it worked after rebooting once, and I created a new install. This hasn't happened in over a year, so any suggestions about what might be causing my drives problem? Thanks...

You can install Ubuntu from a USB if you have one handy. As mentioned, 13.10 is dead and will not receive updates, including security updates.
Thanks, is there a terminal line I could update Ubuntu using without losing my data?
