@grub: just that and do not forget
    Code:
    sudo update-grub

About NVidia, as I wrote, I'll look at it once I get some spare time, it might take me more to grasp that since I do not have NVidia at hand...

    Me too!

I tried running a couple of RCs, but never could get the 304.x nVidia legacy drivers to survive the initial build, when installing the 3.19 kernel(s).

I finally got tired of looking for a patch (I have a hunch 304.x drivers are dead in the water), so I reverted back to Nouveau.

3.19rc-7 worked a treat, alongside Nouveau. Dittos for 3.19 final. Yay!

    Re: 3.19 final

    hi all,
no i didn't try nouveau, and the reason is simple:

    https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90841

it is not about one, but about 2 asus notebooks which means more than 2000 euro for this price i expect that something works like a charm (+performance) - which was almoust the case with the 3.17.7 kernel (i need new kernel because of elantech touchpad on other notebook, on which i still didn't try final 3.19 kernel).

by the way, please permit me two questions:

    I)
during the last 2 year, i've changed few linux distros, but color correction option is always missing inside my nvidia control panel? why? here's an example image of what would i like to see on my notebook screen:

    II)
the guy here has the same problem like me with nvidia (super annoying issue with scrolling while using my text editor):

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...3#post13223713
Well, just to restate the problem:
    1) Open source driver won't allow computer to suspend without freeze.
    2) If Nvidia driver is used, I have super annoying issue with scrolling while using my text editor (Sublime Text 2).
So I have a dilema. "What negative attribute am I willing to deal with unless the problem can be fixed?"

at the above link, Mathew Hodson 19 hours ago says bug no longer affects various compiz plugins...
do you know when will this fix become available via ubuntu software updater?

This would get better answer in a thread of its own and not here in a dark coner of basement space of U+1...

    Re: 3.19 final

I guess I'm missing something here, but...

I don't know why the bugs link (above) would preclude someone from trying Nouveau drivers.

I've used Nouveau drivers off n' on (mostly off) in the past, and I always switched back to nVidia drivers once they became available, because of various issues. That said, I've never had a better experience with Nouveau drivers than I'm currently having.

As expected, my GPU is running about 15C hotter than with nVidia drivers, but the Nouveau drivers are working great on 3.19 Final.

They must have done a lot of work on Nouveau lately. IMO they've now surpassed nVidia for use on ancient iron...

    Re: 3.19 final

ok, here it is, kernel 3.19.final on my wife's "Asus X750JN-TY027H" Notebook.
i have the same error with nvidia, but for now this is not so important...

    1)
can anyone please explain to me what are all those errors (mostly ACPI) within dmesg?

    pastebinit /var/log/dmesg
    http://paste.ubuntu.com/10236430/

    2)
Touchpad is still completely unfunctional (even cursor is missing):
    Output of xinput:

    xinput
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Logitech USB Optical Mouse id=11 [slave pointer (2)]
    ⎜ ↳ ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad id=14 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]

    ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]

    ↳ USB Camera id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Asus WMI hotkeys id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=13 [slave keyboard (3)]

i'm attaching image with some more details.
thanks in advance for any idea how to solve this problem

    Re: 3.19 final

there are some acpi errors around line 800 and later, like:
ACPI Exception: AE_AML_PACKAGE_LIMIT, Index (0x000000008) is beyond end of object (length 0x1) (20141107/exoparg2-420)

so be sure about the bios/efi settings used.
Is that system a fresh installation ? myself boot with systemd-sysv (package installed, grub not modified, not needed now) because ubuntu is slowly moving to it , and results are better now than with upstart which get less devs attention.
To get errors highlighted, open a terminal and run "sudo journalctl"
If your system(s) have been only dist-upgraded since a while, then maybe you got some weird configs registered inside the hidden files: .gconf, .config, .gnome2, .local ; you can save them by adding .old to their names for example, then reboot (they will be automatically recreated, but without your custom settings of course).
That way you can narrow down the issue. Also downgrade to genuine package(s) in case some ppa's package(s) are used, and possibly disturb the system.
