What just happened to my Snes9x preferences after an update - ?

My Snes9x emulator reverted back to the way it was when I installed. I lost my screen preferences, but more importantly my saved game status - I had almost completed Donkey Kong Kountry 2 ! Arrggggh !

The only think I recall doing is software update today. Anyone else have anything like this happen - ?

I asked on the IRC and was told to check out retroach, to use mlocate to find it, the location may have changed, and to search for something that ends in *.srm with the name of the game in it.

All of which I need help doing. All I know is I thought the Snes9x preferences were in the hidden folder ".Snes9x"

This is of major importance, because finishing Donkey Kong Kountry 2 is of utmost importance - LOL.

Attached is a screenshot of the folder where I keep the SNES roms.

    Update:

Since all settings were lost, I just reprogrammed my 2 joysticks and reprogrammed which keys to use for save and load states (I like using one save state on the joystick itself and also one load state a button on the joystick also).

And much to my delighted surprise, when I hit load state it loaded my Donkey Kong Kountry 2 state back where I had almost finished it - HOORAY !

How it lost the preferences I do not know. Again, all I remember doing is a software update.

But as the Russians say: The Ends Justifies The Means, ie it works again !
