I'd like to try 3.19, but I can't find a patch for the nVidia legacy drivers...

This still works, sort of, with the latest drivers:

Change f_dentry to f_path.dentry in nv.c and nv-frontend.c files. And change MODULE_LICENSE("NVIDIA"); to MODULE_LICENSE("GPL"); in the same files.
It seems it's now only necessary to change "NVIDIA" to "GPL", uvm wont install though. Running RC7 with 346.35 and GTX680. Legacy drivers may be another story, don't know about those.

    Re: 3.19-rc7

    hi xeizoo,
do you mean that the combination "kernel 3.19.rc7 - nvidia 346.35" is still problematic?
if so, that's a bad news.

i have two asus notebooks, one with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M and the other with NVIDIA GeForce GT 840M. I thought the problem was solved:

    Re: 3.19-rc7

I tried everything I could think of, but couldn't get nVidia 304.125 to survive an initial build.

Now I've switched to Nouveau and all is good...

    Re: 3.19-rc7

6 hours runtime and no probs...

GPU temps are running about 15C warmer than with nVidia drivers, but this is normal and expected.

Most importantly, no freezes have occurred. I was reading an article about 3.19rc freezing on a tech site, a couple of weeks ago. They said the Linux maintainers were mystified by this. They must have fixed it.

    Re: 3.19-rc7

13 hours and still ticking. Working quite nicely, actually.

    I think it's a keeper...

    EDIT

    WoW! Unity is working again!

I try to fire up Unity every month or two, but it never loads -- figured it was some Gnome Shell conflict.

Now I'm thinking it was an issue with video drivers or compositor.

Whatevs! This is going to be interesting...

    Re: 3.19-rc7

I bought the ThinkPad X1 Carbon with the Intel HD graphics 5500 chip and experienced graphical issues such as window border decoration corrupting and text getting messed up etc. really weird problems and visual glitches i'm not even sure if i am descriing right. So I thought I will try 3.19-rc7 and now my WiFi is not working which completely baffles me because this is Intel Wifi and how can it work perfectly normal in a version but gets broken going forward???

Right now i'm on 3.18 and wireless is working here but there remains some visual glitches with the text corruption although it seems less this time... Can anyone enlighten me on this and maybe there are some X1 Carbon owners here that can guide me?
