    Exclamation Several settings icons have vanished

    I wanted to turn down the brightness of my laptop running Ubuntu 14.04 because I was going to be at a seminar on battery power, but the usual search through the top-left corner Ubuntu icon for "brightness" did not pull up the brightness settings. Tried "Systems Settings" in the scroll-down menu of the top-right corner system button and that did not help either. Attaching a screenshot, which shows that several settings icons are missing. Will really appreciate help with this.
