Here is an Ubuntu wiki page on how to get involved, I did not check every link to make sure they still work.

That would be nice actually, I want to help debug Ubuntu but don't know where to start.

    Nah it doesn't (Ian's original post)... @Paddy

I also noted almost no references to Lubuntu in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ContributeToUbuntu that WildMan provided (so I've added some)

Good call. (You must have added a lot, because there are now 26 references ).

Lubuntu isn't as popular is it should be. As the lightest of the official Ubuntu variants, it's saved many old computers of mine, my family and my friends. I often see alternatives (such as Pop!_OS and Mint) recommended to newcomers with old computers on Reddit, but they don't have the official support that Lubuntu does, as well as being heavier by far. If you need to go lighter still, there's Bodhi Linux.

The other thing that I notice is that when you search for Lubuntu, the top result is usually an unofficial, outdated website. The result is that some people download from there and hit problems with Lubuntu. That might be one reason why it's not so popular. So, here's yet another link to Lubuntu download for the search engines
