Trying to get rtl8821ae working in Ubuntu 14.04

Trying to get rtl8821ae working in Ubuntu 14.04. There appears to be two issues right now A) scanning is not working, it never seems to see any wireless network, B) its switching back and forth from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz like crazy.

Has anyone gotten this working? Or is this a hopeless case?

I might not be using the right command, or something, but it seems the channel is set to 8, which is right, but I can't set the ap or scan or anything else.

Don't know how to fix it.

Switching to rtlwifi seems to fix it for me.
