Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

    Hello,

I have compiled rc6 today and have some problems with getting sound working.
Basically, i think the sound card is detected, but when using speaker-test, i get this error:
    speaker-test 1.1.3

    Playback device is default
    Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 16 to 204800
Period size range from 8 to 102400
    Using max buffer size 204800
    Periods = 4
Unable to set hw params for playback: Invalid argument
Settings of hwparams failed: Invalid arguments

    I uploaded an alsa-info.sh report here : http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=5e...ad5c49bf580938

When using alsamixer, i can set the volume for the sound card.
I don't know if it's relevant but i'm using ArchLinux

Do you know if this is an issue with the X205TA ?

Did you check if the directory /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtrt5645 exists and contains the right files ? If I md5sum the files in that directory I get the following result:
    Code:
    md5sum /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtrt5645/*
    471fe244e731c10bb3bbca1386bfd8b5 /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtrt5645/chtrt5645.conf
    ce609b7a60fb7db06d5a53126b91728c /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtrt5645/HiFi.conf
you can get the right files @ https://github.com/plbossart/UCM/tree/master/chtrt5645
(btw you are aware that for headphones output you still need a patch ? it's in one of the links in my sig)
(edit: also make sure you deselect CONFIG_HDMI_LPE_AUDIO when you compile the kernel. See my comment 217 of the bugtracker and Takashi Iwai's answer)

edit: to all: since (x)ubuntu 17.04 was just released, I made an iso with my modified version of linuxiums isorespin script. the iso can be dd'ed (and - although not tested - rufus on windows) to a usb stick and has kernel v4.11-rc3 and thus audio out of the box (after you switched output channels with pavucontrol of course). It can be downloaded here:
    ftp://x205ta.myftp.org:1337/isos

you could also create a persistent usb stick, although then you can't use dd:
    Code:
#format a usb stick with a fat32 partition, for example with gparted
    sudo mount /dev/<usbstick> /path/to/usbmountpoint
    sudo 7z x x205ta-xubuntu-17.04-desktop-amd64.iso -o/path/to/usbmountpoint #notice, no space after -o flag
    sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/path/to/usbmountpoint/casper-rw bs=1M count=1024 #increase count to get a bigger persistence file, 1024 equals 1GB
    sudo mkfs.ext3 -F /path/to/usbmountpoint/casper-rw

#open grub.cfg and add the word persistent to the linux boot parameters (ctrl+o; enter to save)
    sudo nano /path/to/usbmountpoint/boot/grub/grub.cfg

    sudo umount /path/to/usbmountpoint

Hey Harry, in your ubuntu 17.04 are there also suspend scripts?
I tried to download but it gives me an error. "Can't reach ftp server". Thank you.

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

The suspend scripts aren't necessary anymore since jazmatjaz wrote patches that fix touchpad breaking on suspend, and I left out the module btsdio in my kernel (which breaks wifi on suspend). I also included a patch so that you can close/open the lid to suspend. Even with those fixes the laptop does crash from time to time when suspending (although it's gotten a lot better).

Weird you cant reach my ftp, I can through 4G so it's definitely up...
edit: found the issue, wrong permissions on the file. Thanks for reporting! it should be downloadable now

You can find the gui option in the XFCE settings manager under "window manager tweaks" -> "compositor" -> "enable display compositing"
It turns out turning off compositing did not work, I just forgot to mention it earlier. I tried a bunch of different chrome flags with no success. I'm sticking with sound-10 for now.

I've just updated my kernel to 4.11-rc7. Don't know if it will solve your issue though...
