how to patch (for beginner)

Hi guys,

Working with aircrack-ng is such a pleasure and i find it so interesting, the only problem im having for the time being is im not able to inject packets, although i can attack,
after reading and googling a lot ive assume that i need to patch my mac80211 (still im not sure if im having both drivers since i see IEEE802.11 as well)
Qualcomm atheros
Drver=ath9k
Driver version: 3.13

i have downloaded the backports-3.17-rc3-1 and im not able to install it, could you please guide me through and let me know if i have downloaded the right backport to make my network card inject packets as well?
