Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 connection is very slow

Now that I have switched to Ubuntu the connection speed for my wireless internet has dramtically decreased. It takes noticeably longer for pages to load and such.

I have tried the modprobe -r command and removing N, but when I do that, my connection goes out and is never restored. I'm pretty sure that in this issue of Ubuntu the intel drivers are all up to date. I can't really figure the problem.

    Code:

    Bump. Problem still persists.

Tried methods in old threads from a search, nothing helped.

    Hi proxy2.

It may be this case: 85% performance hit in iwlwifi from 12.04 to 14.04.

Scroll down for the description of the parameters you would need to modify.

Hope it helps. Let us know how it goes.
    Regards.

Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 connection is very slow

I have tried the modprobe -r command and removing N, but when I do that, my connection goes out and is never restored
Can you elaborate exactly what you are typing? Which options are you trying?

How is your wireless router configured? Is it configured for 802.11n only (not allowing 802.11g)? Is it set to WPA2 security with AES? If not, what?

We have been observing since a couple of months that if the 'iwlwifi' module is reloaded on a running system, the networking fails. As such, it is recommended to apply any experimental changes in permanent mode by writing them to respective .conf files and try them with a reboot.

As for the 11n_disable parameter, it very often helps to set its value to '8' in the newer versions of the driver. Please try it as follows -
    Code:
    echo "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=8" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
Reboot and let us know the effect on speed.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions, changing the paramater value to '8' in the config file helped tremendously. My connection speed is much better now.
