14.04 drivers for Nvidia GeForce GT 730 desktop board

    Greetings,

It appears I may have selected too new of a video card to purchase for use with Xubuntu 14.04.1 x64. I speak of an EVGA brand Nvidia GeForce GT 730 with 2GB of DDR5. URL to board: http://www.evga.com/Products/Product...02G-P3-3733-KR

From the following posts, which have very similar steps, I understand I need a newer build of the Nvidia binary drivers than what are packaged currently for 14.04. Specifically: v331.89

    http://www.sysads.co.uk/2014/07/inst...-ubuntu-14-04/
    http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/...-ubuntu-14-04/

The steps listed were nearly identical. The results will not work.

I allowed the Nvidia installer to build a xorg.conf file for me during the installation. The interesting part of that log is as follows:

    Code:

And that xorg.conf file is as follows:

So I went off to search for a default generic xorg.conf file which was suppose to work with Nvidia drivers. I found one here:
    http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Minimal_NVidia_xorg.conf

Which that produces the following log file output:

I have the LCD screen attached to the 15 pin D-SUB VGA connector.

Suggestions of how to properly configure these drivers for the GeForce GT 730 board?

    I am thankful,
    Michael Lueck

One the same page you linked to.

    http://www.sysads.co.uk/2014/07/inst...-ubuntu-14-04/

That installs the ppa with the pre-compiled version, so you install with apt-get.
Be sure to completely purge your current nVidia driver. Otherwise you get conflicts.

I have an older nVidia card and the current version in the repository works for me.

Re: 14.04 drivers for Nvidia GeForce GT 730 desktop board

Thank you very much, oldfred. I got the drivers you pointed me towards working perfectly with this Nvidia GeForce GT 730 desktop board. And I will note, per usual with Ubuntu / Xubuntu, no /etc/X11/xorg.conf file is required to get the drivers to talk to a simple single-head non-KVM switch configuration.

    I am thankful,
    Michael Lueck
