    Apache OpenOffice / LibreOffice

If the quote below is true, files between these two office suites currently may not be easily exchanged:
One particular area that concerns me is cross-compatibility. I'm hearing stories about difficulty in transferring ODF files from LibreOffice to Apache OpenOffice, with formatting of things like tables being messed up in the process. This is completely unacceptable: one of the benefits of adopting an open standard is the ability to swap in and out different applications. If that theory proves impossible in reality, we have a huge problem.

    Time to unify. It's simple.

Yes but in favour of LibreOffice.

If one of the suites is misrendering ODF files, that is a bug that the developers will take seriously and probably fix quickly (assuming it has been reported to them). Without a link to bug report or an example document that exhibits the issue it could just be someone spreading FUD.

The author is Glyn Moody. So, assuming the article is genuine, FUD is unlikely.
