Sorry about that. It seems my thread was buried within 3 days of posting

That was very quick. Do you have some sort of notification program that calls your attention whenever you receive a reply in the forums?

This function is available through your user CP, I believe. I don't use it, I just happened to be around.

I think that this is an important developement.

I use the Quick Links > Subscribed Threads feature, too. But it would be nice if there was an RSS feed available for Subscribed Threads, so you won't have to keep on going to that page whenever a subscribed thread has been updated.

(Btw, off-topic, I noticed something about MEPIS 6 and MP3s. You might want to take a peek at this thread: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthre...=220761&page=4)

Why and how did flash become popular?

What are the features of flash that make all webmasters use flash in their websites?

Can the FOSS people come up with an alternative providing all the features that flash provides? How easy or difficult is that?

True, we have gnash. But with the Gnash approach the FOSS community would always lag behind developments in adobe.

We need to do an openoffice or firefox or ogg in the flash domain. Redefine the paradigm and rocket ahead of proprietory format.

I think flash became popular because of the ability to have interaction and animation with vector graphics, making the file size small. It was a "cool" thing so everyone jumped in the bandwagon. Now it seems that AJAX is the "in" thing.

I think it would be quite some time before Gnash could catch up. No offense meant to its developers, but it's quite behind last time I checked.

I believe this is a work in progress?

Well, all the RSS feeds have been "a work in progress" for the past 2 months. And with some of the forum admins (who worked on it) gone, I'm not going to keep my hopes up. Good thing I was able to keep the old RSS links, because the current ones aren't working properly, at least on my side.

It's a real pain having to miss flash. Some people even make their whole website out of Flash or everytime you click some link on certain website it's all about FLASH FLASH FLASH :S
