Latest Chrome, *buntu, Icedtea and Java applets

I really do love to use Chrome and give all the information of my live to NSA and friends. And since it has the best way to syncronize browser with multiple devices I will continue to do so. However now I have a problem. I can't use java applets anymore even that the plugin has been installed. It does not appear in aboutlugins!

Is there any way to control this with the latest Chrome version? Any workarounds?

I use Sage quite often and Jmol 3-d viewer requires java.

I can of course use another browser, but if there is a solution for this, then I would love to hear about it!

NPAPI (Netscape Plugin Application Programming Interface) was dropped for Linux in Chrome 35 because of Aura. IcedTea and Oracle both use NPAPI, so it won't work until they are upgraded to the new system (don't expect that any time soon).

The only solution would be to downgrade to Chrome 34.

Moved to the General Help sub-forum since it doesn't concern any particular desktop environment.
