    OK, it looks like most of your troubles are my fault (mea culpa)
    I'm mostly kubuntu(KDE) fan.
    So, now, I've started Gnome to check it.
    THIS should be working:
    create script to launch notes e.g. /home/user/bin/notesstart
    Code:
    #!/bin/sh

    NOTESBIN=/home/malmo/notes
    NOTESDATA=/home/malmo/notes/data
    NOTESDIR=/home/malmo/notes/data
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$NOTESBIN:$NOTESBIN/jvm/bin/classic:$NOTESBIN/jvm/bin:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    PATH=$NOTESBIN/jvm/bin:$NOTESBIN:$PATH
    CLASSPATH=./:$NOTESBIN/:$CLASSPATH
    export NOTESBIN NOTESDATA NOTESDIR LD_LIBRARY_PATH PATH CLASSPATH

    /opt/ibm/Workplace\ Managed\ Client/rcp/richclient -personality com.ibm.workplace.noteswc.standalone.linux.personality
    chmod 755 notesstart

    now you can edit launcher icon to point to script

    I hope, that this is final

    Re: HOWTO: Install & setup Lotus Notes for Linux

    I'm using Debian unstable and noticed that the Notes installer created a .bash_profile file in my home directory that sets all these environment vars ... problem is that I'm using gdm to login so the contents of .bash_profile never get executed. However, the settings are all there for the picking - straight from the source - if anyone is interested

    Malmo,

    Thanks for the excellent HOWTO!

    I followed the guideline and installed everything on Dapper Dake 6.06 without any problems, but I get an annoying crash when starting the Application via the scipt:

    Starting the empty "Workplace Managed Client" worked perfectly.

    Has anybody the same problem or a hint for me?

    Thanks

    Described the same problem on the first page

    I had a Lotus expert try to help me debug this but no luck so far.
    Going to try to download the package again and do a fresh install.

    I'm Using Dapper Drake 6.06, fully updated.

    I've got exactly the same problem... installed plenty of times and still get the same output as that... I've got libmotif installed and everything else plus the libs setup in the path....

    Lotus notes forum isn't sheding anything either.... Why couldn't they have just packaged it properly! Sametime 7.5 beta for linux is in an RPM (which I converted using alien to a deb) and it works flawlessly....

    Do the logs in ~/notes/IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT show the same crash messages as posted, or are there additional/different messages?

    Re: HOWTO: Install & setup Lotus Notes for Linux

    I'm on a domino 5 server....
    But that's not the issue as I've not even got to the config stage of notes... it crashes as it's loading the config stage (same errors as the long post above).

    I've had notes r7 under windows working fine on a domino 5 server even with a r7 template, no problems, although you just can't use the new features... it's all backwards compatible.

    Re: HOWTO: Install & setup Lotus Notes for Linux

    Error message at bottom and screen error message attached.... not very helpful as far as I can tell... although there a couple of file not founds at the beginning... I've got exactly the same notesstart script as posted before (but changing the home dir obviously).

    It loads the blank pannels if you run it without the script...
    With the script a box pops up saying "NSD is running, please wait...", then crashes and the error message pops up.

    See what you can make of it... any ideas?

    I've snipped a load of this as it's so looooong.

    It's the same crash message as posted although the NSD log is a bit more detailed.

    I'm in the process of reinstalling a fresh download.
    If I suffer from the same crash I could post the log.(added)
