Ethernet Not Working on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

    Hi Eyeryone,

I've been using Ubuntu 13.10 for a while and just updated to 14.04 yesterday and my ethernet doesn't work at all. When I plug in the wire the light flashes and the computer tries to connect but doesn't. I've heard other people on the forums had this issue but no one seems to have solved it yet. I have a wifi adapter but it only works in Windows but I can't download the drivers for it because the ethernet won't work. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

    sps828gaming; Patience !

Let thoe who do know who might be able to help the most have a chance to see your request.

However, it is me that responds 1st.

Let's begin with the basics for a general looksee:
    1. network card detected ?
    Code:
    sudo lshw -C network
    lspci | grep Ethernet
    2. IP address assigned ?
    Code:
    ipconfig eth0 ##(or whichever the network is,eth1)
    3. Check /etc/network/interfaces
    Code:
    cat /etc/network/interfaces
    4. DNS resolution ?
    Code:
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    ls -la /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/base ##empty as in size 0 ?
And see where we fo from here.

    it is all a process

Re: Ethernet Not Working on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Yes, the network card is recognized and I don't see an ip address. The only thing that could be the ip address inet6 address. When I typed in
    Code:
    cat /etc/network/interfaces
    I get

    Code:
    # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback
    And when I type in

    Code:
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    I get

    Code:
    # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
    # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
    And when I type in

    Code:
    ls -la /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/base ##empty as in size 0 ?
    I get

    Code:
    -rw-r--r== 1 root root 0 Dec 13  2012 /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/base

Re: Ethernet Not Working on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

    sps828gaming; Well !

No /etc/resolv.conf contents ?, we will get back to that.

    What returns from terminal commands:
    Code:
    ifconfig

Thats a normal-looking /etc/network/interfaces for a system running Network Manager.
ifconfig (or ifconfig -a) should show what the interfaces (network cards) are up to.

    sps828gaming; UnGood.

No "inet addr' returned. Are you on a router ?
if so try and "reclone" the router, and reboot the system.

    goota be a cause
