Ubuntu 14.04 not working, can only use in recovery mode (with bad resolution)

I'm new to Ubuntu/Linux, so I don't know much about the OS at all.
    I'll explain what's going on.

So, I recently installed a new version of Linux to my HP Pavillion Slimline s5120f PC via USB, following a good YouTube tutorial on how to do it, and properly set it up. I don't know if I got a bad version, or my USB installed it wrong, or if there's broken packages or what, but after I finished installing Ubuntu 14.04, I restarted my computer as directed, and then booted it back up on the fresh install of Ubuntu. So, I logged on with the correct password, then now, it starts getting weird.

Here's a video of a demonstration, since it's so hard to explain.

I just don't know. Any support and help would be greatly appreceated.

Edit: Also, in recovery mode > resume, it's pretty darn laggy.

    Hi, welcome to the fora.

Do you remember if you checked 'add restricted software' during install?
