First I would like to say I am a total noob when it comes to linux. I don't use linux as an OS.

What I would like to do is use my Synology diskstation (which uses Linux) to transfer files to a remote target (a seagate goflex)

I have installed MC on my synology (since they don't have a FTP client), and I do not wish to copy huge amount of files on my computer, then use filezilla to transfer those to the remote target.

I use putty to connect to my synology and start MC. I want to be able to start transfer, but then close my computer (therefore closing my putty connection).

I have been told about "nohup". I tried it, but I do not know how I can "recall" it back. It also outputs a nohup.out file. Apparently it gets really big. What is the purpose?

I have heard about using "screen" instead. Could anyone give me a step by step how to use any of the 2 commands to achieve my purpose?
