Firefox update - change of appearance

    Hello all

Is there any way to roll back or change my firefox appearance? There was an update to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS for me today whereby it updated my browser and it has changed the whole theme of it. The new theme doesn't allow me to customise my layout nearly as much as the previous theme and it's driving me crazy.

It now forces me to lay all my buttons and tabs on two bars horizontally accross my screen when previously everything fit nicely into 1 bar. It makes the top inch of my screen entirely dedicated to blank space... much like the Ribbon in microsoft applications (word etc).

Is there an extention or something I can use to go back to the previous theme or is it in the settings somewhere?

    Thanks folks

Not possible, at least to my knowledge. You can however try to install older version if you find it somewhere.

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 and FF just upgraded to version 29.

This blurb copied from Mozilla might help
"We reimagined and redesigned Firefox to reflect how you use the Web today and we are excited
to introduce many features including an elegant and fun design, new menu, customization mode
and an enhanced Firefox Sync service powered by Firefox Accounts."
I think FF is chasing Chrome

Thanks for the reply. I've found an older version. I suspect I would need to remove the current firefox and then install the old one and any associated plugins etc.

And be careful when updating stuff to not just update firefox in the future accidentally.

Now... the old firefox file is .tar.bz2 - I don't suppose you know how to install that file do you? It's not one I'm hugely familiar with

    Yeah I found the:

"Customization Mode: Makes it easy for you to personalize your Web experience to access the features you use the most. You can easily drag and drop your favorite feature, tool or add-on in the menu or toolbar."

Just seems completely untrue. It's actually a lot harder to customise my stuff now - seeing as they've removed to ability to customise large portions of the interface

You can add the Menu Bar and eliminate the need for a good number of those icons. If you right click on one of those icons, there's an option to make it an entry in the menu bar.

I do not recommend to use and old (now 28 is) release of mozilla firefox, it can be a security risk. Instead, you can use themes (please see: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...ook-of-firefox) in order to change the appearance of the browser or try to customize the appearance of the default one with the menu button at the top right.

If you extract it, it should have the Firefox executable in the extracted flder. Double clicking on the Firefox executable file should open up the browser.
    See if that works.

But then again, you should keep your browser updated as a security concern.

Thanks for the full reply all. I'll try the theme avenue first - I'll roll-back if all else fails.

    Much-o appreciate-o

Re: Firefox update - change of appearance

You can change the appearance of FF29 pretty close to FF28 by using the Classic Theme Restorer addon. You have many choices from which to pick.
