I am looking for a document/book/website that can help me get a good overview of Linux. Since I am a beginner at this, I am not really able to clearly describe what it is that I want but it is something that will help organize my thoughts and study on Linux and its various flavours. Perhaps I can give an example of something that I happened upon while searching through the stickies at the head of the Absolute Beginners Section. I went to PopularPages and then clicked on 'O', thinking there might be an 'Overview' page. There wasn't but I saw 'Openbox' and, being a bit ADD, thought "Hmm, I've seen that somewhere. I wonder what it's about". Of course, it didn't have what the overview that I had intended to look for but it did have this:
What is Openbox?
To answer that question, it's important to know the difference between a window manager and a desktop environment.
And I thought, Yeah, that's what I want. Something that will get me started on understanding the various components of a functioning Linux system.
Any suggestions where I might find something like that? Some thing that is fairly simple but can give order to my search for knowleg?
