I very rarely go to McDonalds these days, and usually prefer home-cooked meals.

On a side note, the last time I looked, the location of the very first McDonalds in New Zealand was sitting empty! (The franchise is still around. They moved to location which previously had a car yard, before that another fast food outlet, and originally a pub.)

    Enter McDonald's?

Americans don't enter Mcdonald's, we use the Drive-Thru.

I don't think they let you Pee through the drive-thru window.
Use whatever OS or desktop works for you. Dual boot or use VMs if you want. Backup your computer regularly, and definitely before upgrading, partitioning, or installing an OS.

I avoided Unity for years: Now it's by far my favorite desktop - only Deepin DE comes close but am not certain of it's integrity.
Or the new Deepin DDE which is currently in Alpha tops anything Deepin has done in the past.

I'm currently in the same boat, Ubuntu and Deepin are the only 2 which have got me excited!

On the sharing searches with Amazon, How is that any different to Google sharing the searches with them? There's no personally identifiable information passed. It's no different to the info Amazon get from any of the millions of amazon affiliates sites when visitors click through to Amazon, Amazon are able to see what each visitor clicked on and where they came from. Do you use the Disqus commenting system?

"As with other embedded web widgets such as like buttons, the Disqus widget acts as a web bug which tracks a user's activities, even when they are not logged in, across different sites that use the Disqus commenting system. Information tracked by Disqus.com, which may be disclosed to 3rd parties, includes pseudonymous analytics data such as a user's IP address, their web-browser's version and installed add-ons, and their referring pages and exit links.[13] Although this data is referred to by Disqus as "Non-Personally Identifiable Information", such data, when aggregated, has been shown to be usable for de-anonymizing users."

Who said: "It's better to be inside the tent pissing out then outside the tent pissing in?"

I use both Ubuntu and Mint. They have evolved to serve different users.

With folks that I have helped to migrate from Windows (and even Mac) to Linux they have expressed similar sentiment, but I would estimate 50% adoption of Ubuntu with Unity and 50% Mint with either Cinnamin or Mate for the desktop. Because of that, I use both. On older machines I use Mate because it is lighter on resources, but if you have a newer machine with a wide-screen display, then give Unity a try to see if it fits your style of computing. You have to experience it since reading about a desktop comparison is like describing the difference between a Big Mac and a Whopper.
