    13.10 & 14.04 - Wireless driver won't work after system install

I have been using Ubuntu for years but I'm still a novice when it comes to navigating the terminal and getting hardware working.

This problem applies to Xubuntu and Ubuntu, 13.10 and 14.04.
I have a one-month-old Alienware that has one of the newer 802.11ac model wireless chipsets. When I boot into the system in live mode, I go to "additional drivers" under software sources, click the proprietary driver for my card, hit apply, and everything works perfectly. But, after I actually install the system, the wireless driver refuses to work. When I try to activate the driver the same way, it immediately reverts to being un-activated. I have run lspci and it shows that the system does recognize the card.

    What I've tried:
    Re-install
    Clean install
Installing updates while the system is installing

I have no wired connection and my tethered connection to my iPhone won't work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Click on the Wireless Script in my signature and follow the directions, and post the output in "code" tags.

    Thanks,

    Re: 13.10 & 14.04 - Wireless driver won't work after system install

Problem solved. The issue was that the package
    bcmwl-kernel-source

was not installed for some odd reason. I drove to my parent's home for the holiday and I was able to install the pacakge and the proprietary driver listed under "additional drivers" with no further issues.
