    question about ubuntu

a few years ago i order Ubuntu and installed it on a laptop that program ruined that laptop it made the screen go to like 40 caricatures for the font size and i could never got the laptop to revert back to any other operating system. plus t thought the program was hard to use. has it gotten any better and now if it is installed will it act like a normal operating system? i would like to give it a try once again but on a separate computer just in case the same thing happens again.

so if i try it again what is the system requirements to install it? and is it now more like windows like fire fos is to explorer? thanks

    Re: question about ubuntu

The only way to find out is too download an ISO image and burn it to a DVD disk and run a Ubuntu Live session.

In a few days a new version of Ubuntu will be released (14.04). You might want to wait until then. How to install.

Any new computer operating system would seem hard to use if a person was not familiar with it. Last year I installed a pre-view version of Windows 8. I found it hard to use. That was because I did not know how to use it.

Do not expect any Linux distribution to be like a Microsoft Windows operating system because the developers have their own ideas and are not trying to produce a cheap copy of Windows.

    These are the system requirements

You might want to look through the online version of the Desktop guide. It will give you an idewa of what Ubuntu now looks like.

Don't now what constitutes the actions of a "normal" operating system!

If your question is if the Linux distros are just like Windows -- even there, XP is different from Vista, which is different from Win7, which is different from Win8.

At this point , it would probably be most valuable for you to learn how Linux is different from Windows -- and then judge if you still want to go down the Linux "route": http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm
    Ubuntu 20.04, Mint 19.10; MS Win10 Pro.
Will not respond to PM requests for support -- use the forums.

Please keep only one question per thread. Do you want to get the old computer back to life or do you want an introduction to the latest Buntus?

Don't use this space for a list of your hardware. It only creates false hits in the search engines.

old computer was so badly destroyed by ubuntu i just threw it out. i could not get it to work and the computer geeks at best by could not get it either. it worked good until i installed ubuntu a few years ago. i tried running it from the cd but it did not run well at all and then i installed it and it made the screen about 1/4 the normal size and the hard drive about 1/8th the capacity. nothing helped. that is why i asked about the newest ubuntu. doe the new os behave somewhat like windows or is it so completely different the i have to learn all not terminology?

so i can download the newest os and again run it from the cd. are the words now in english or still animals? thanks
