Hey all.

I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on an Asus X102B laptop. It's 64-bit, has an ATI Radeon HD 8180 graphics card, and an AMD A4-1200 processer. Everything seems to work fine except for the screen brightness.

The display appears to be set to the brightest setting and there is no way to change it. Not only do the hotkeys not work (fn + f5/f6), but System Settings -> Brightness and Lock contains no sliders to adjust, and I can't find an adjustment anywhere else.

I downloaded a brightness indicator (from http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2013/04/b...control-ubuntu) but when I click on the icon to adjust the brightness, it says "No backlights were found on your system".

It seems strange to me that Ubuntu apparently doesn't see the backlight at all, yet the screen shines as bright as a flashlight. I would imagine that the backlight wouldn't work if it isn't recognized. Anyone have any suggestions? All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
