LTS = Long Term Support = 5 years.
And your information from the Internet is incorrect in another way. Not 18 months but 9 months. Used to be 18 months for interim releases (the six monthly releases inbetween the 2 yearly Ubuntu LTS releases but the support for interim releases is now down to 9 months). The correct information is here. Ubuntu 12.04 is the last LTS release. It will be replaced by 14.04 LTS at the end of April.

Oh, in case anybody is wondering, the support period starts from the release date and not from the day we install Ubuntu.

I meant the five year support life for the desktop.
True it was three.
But it's only been two years since they increased it to five.

Ubuntu user since 2005
Stable and a decent version. I did have an issue a few weeks ago with high system load but all seems well now. 14.04 is in feature freeze and basically we are in bugfixes only until release.
