    Installing a lighter distro

Currently using ubunto 13.10 and loving it but I'm thinking about possibly switching to a lighter distro the machine I'm running it on is set up to dual boot windows 8.1 / ubunto unfortunately I need to keep windows around .... Looking for suggestions on distros and if I was to do this what would be the proper way to go about changing distro?

Xubuntu is light on resources, but if you want something lighter there is Lubuntu.

PS: Soon this should go into Ubuntu, Linux & OS Chat I am guessing.

    Re: Installing a lighter distro

    Well, there are 2 paths:

    1) Install lubuntu-desktop/ xubuntu-desktop from Software Center. Once it is installed Log-out and when you log in choose the LXDE/XFCE from the Log-in screen, that will give you the LXDE/XFCE desktop.

    2) Download a iso of Xubuntu/Lubuntu from the respective sites mentioned in my earlier post and have a go

In case you install from Software Center, there will be some application that you will see twice over, Like 'Settings' 'Online Accounts' etc, when you do, you post a fresh thread to sort it out, else like me you can keep them all.

Try Elementary OS Luna before anything else. It's very good indeed.

MX 14 with LXDE added works beautifull for my laptop

Don't have to worry about that, if the thread is going elsewhere the Moderators will do the needful.
Just remember threads relating to support are generally posted in this 'Absolute Beginner's Section'

Did you get the iso's or did you install simply the Desktop Environments from Software Center?

You can have a look in this page for illustrative example : http://askubuntu.com/questions/44062...l-lxde-lubuntu
