Scott says that although the future of Ubuntu is based around Unity across various hardware, part of the beauty of Ubuntu is being able to use the desktop of your choice.

    Dying for an Ubuntu Linux phone? Here's how much it'll cost you

    Neil McAllister of The Register reports on the latest updates regarding pricing of the upcoming Ubuntu phones, writing: "Speaking at the CeBIT conference in Hanover, Germany on Tuesday, Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth said we should expect the first Ubuntu phones to be "mid-high end" devices, with price tags in the $200 to $400 (PS120 to PS240) range."

    Wil Wheaton Not Crazy About Direction Ubuntu Has Taken

    Joey-Elijah Sneddon of OMG! Ubuntu! talks about Wil Wheaton's recent Google+ post where he declares that he's "not happy" with the direction which Ubuntu has taken. Joey notes that Wheaton "has no plans" to move back to being a full-time GNU/Linux user, though he's been having fun exploring the many available kernels, desktops, and packages.

    Ubuntu 14.04 Themes To Use Borderless Window Decorations

    Andrew of WebUpd8 informs us that Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will feature updated Ambiance and Radiance themes with borderless decorations. He explains that some applications look better without a border and provides some screenshots of a desktop before and after the change.

    Mark Shuttleworth: Mir By Default In Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

    Michael Larabel of Phoronix reports on comments from Mark Shuttleworth's keynote during vUDS where he remarked that they would ship Mir as default "as soon as it's rock solid" and said this should happen by 16.04. He also covers some of the recent history with regard to Mir development and delays and some of the ongoing challenges facing the new display manager.

    Ubuntu Systemd Plans: Will Be Default By Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

    Michael Larabel of Phoronix shares comments from developers at vUDS following a session about the future of init systems in Ubuntu. He also covers comments from Mark Shuttle worth during his keynote, writing that he said "systemd will become the default somewhere along the road to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS in being careful not to break users running Ubuntu Linux."

    Ubuntu Mobile hands-on review

    V3 report on the outcome of various tests they performed on the Ubuntu Mobile OS running on a Google Nexus 4, specifically looking at the interface, apps, multi device functionality, and performance. Their first impressions were positive. Although the interface was different than they had seen before, they found it to be fairly intuitive.
