    Firefox freezes on Lubuntu 13.10

    Hi,

I am having the problem on one of my three computers (and not the others) that Firefox (version 27.0.1) frequently freezes for several minutes at a time before becoming responsive again. It is making it unusable.

If, when this happens, I manage to open a terminal (not easy as the whole system has glued up) and type the command "top" to see which processes are running, in addition to the process "firefox" I see another process called "Browser" with very high memory usage. If I kill that one, Firefox remains open and becomes responsive again.

Any ideas about how to solve this?

    Many thanks.

From the context you typed all I can say its a BUG, in the debugging you better try it once by disabling all add-ons you have installed and if its working fine then enable the add-ons one after one and check browser functionality . so that can let you know whats causing browser freezy.
Dont miss anything even it is small. one small pin is enough to bring down a man.

Thank you for your reply. I have disabled all extensions / plugins / add-ons but the behaviour persists.

It's a pity but that seems to be the only thing to do.

With Firefox you could try creating a new profile. I use Chrome because I gave up on Firefox after version... 18 I think it was (too high of memory usage).

I'm using Firefox and chromium and I have a similar issue. When iI have two tabs open in any browser, and the memory usage reaches the max value (999 mb on my asus eepc), the entire system freezes or gets very slow. It's not a matter of browser, it's a matter of system problem because I didn't had such problems on lubuntu 12.04... or Xubuntu 12,04, just on 13.10....
