Installer boots to black screen Aspire v5-122p

    Hello

Ok, I'm desperately trying to install ubuntu 12.04/13.10 on the above laptop using a flash usb. I have attempted this both by rebooting within Windows 8 using Uefi Usb option and also booting in legacy mode.

I get the initial purple screen after choosing the install option and then the screen just goes black forever..

Am I missing something obvious here? Oddly, the debian live installer works fine but I cant install as the current kernel doesn't support my network card and I dont have the expertise to compile my own.

Any thoughts? Windows 8 is driving me absolutely insane!

    Thanks.

I need to get a bit more information before I can help.

Can you confirm that your computer has AMD Radeon HD 8210 graphics.

Thanks for coming back to me and apologies for the delay in responding (forgot to subscribe to the thread!)

Yes, my netbook does indeed have Radeon 8210 chipset. However, I have seen elsewhere that people were able to actually install ubuntu and then install those particular Radeon drivers from a console after the installation.

I am not even able to get to the installer: just goes to a black screen.

Please let me know if you require any further info
